Join the Garden Volunteers
Our Garden Committee maintains the park's garden, organizing plant installations with volunteers in May and June, with fall planting in Septermber and October. We also participate in “It’s My Park Day” a citywide volunteer effort organized by the Parks Department to spruce up its parks, held every year in May and October. In remembrance of 9/11, the Daffodil Project (October) recruits park volunteers to plant thousands of daffodils in greenspaces throughout the city to create yellow ribbons of flowers each spring.
If you or your group wish to be notified of major planting dates, please fill out the Volunteer form.
To assist with general garden maintenance, just show up any Saturday from May to October between 9 AM and 12 noon and introduce yourself to a supervisor.
FACT: New York City ranks 27th among major U.S. cities in what it spends per capital to operate its municipal park system, the nation’s largest.
